Stones

Since the first edifications, stone has been used in monumental constructions, and it has some advantages like durability, adaptability to sculptural treatment, and the fact that it can be used in modest structures in its natural state. But it also has some disadvantages like its weight, because it is very hard to transport.
There are two types of stonework, the first one is Rubble, it's about broken stone, of irregular size, shape and texture. And the second and the most convenient one is Ashlar Masonry, because its weight and the precision with which it can be shaped it is easy to construct with.

Rubble is the cheapest and simplest way of stonework.
Stone Masonry does not depend on strong bonding for stability.
But the weight causes stability problems when the loads push it in angle.

The best way of bonding is that where the blocks are placed so that the vertical joints in one course are not about the joints in the course above and below.
